A job with a home-based call center or other virtual employer is an enviable position. It’s important to realize that a desire and ability to work from home is NOT considered a skill by potential employers. Home-based employers are looking for good workers that fit their company’s ideals, values, and goals. Make sure that your resume focuses on the characteristics your potential employer is looking for. When writing your resume and interacting with your potential employer, keep the following traits in mind:

Home based workers need to be able to work independently.

Independence is important because when working at home a person has nobody watching them and making sure they are getting their work done. Independence is more than working alone in an office – it’s about problem solving, the ability to think on your feet, and the ability to deal with an irate customer or confused prospect. Most of your calls will be friendly, but the ones that aren’t are the ones that make or break a company. After all, it takes a lot more effort to find a new customer than keep a regular one.

You have excellent communication skills – make sure you use them.

As a virtual employee, you won’t have the luxury of face-to-face interaction. When communicating with your potential employer, make sure that you are professional in every manner. Emails, online applications, and telephone conversations should reflect your personality and enthusiasm for the position you are applying for. Your resume should also focus on these skills.

Problem-solving skills are a key ingredient of home-based work.

Home-based workers have to be able to think on their feet and provide reasonable solutions or answers to questions. You should be able to improvise without going outside of company policies. When applying for a job, ask yourself - What are the customers' expectations? What issues and opportunities will these calls focus on? What specific backgrounds are necessary to speak with these customers? When you write your resume and have deal with any follow-up communications, keep these questions in mind. If they aren’t addressed in the company’s website, consider asking the recruiter when they contact you for an interview.

Show your loyalty and commitment to the employer, not just the job.

Potential employers want to know that you are familiar with what they do, and how they want to do it. As a virtual worker, you will need to be trusted with the company’s image. This means that you should agree with the goals and values of the company and show that you have their mission in mind. Homeshoring companies want their recruits to act as true extensions of their brand. Before applying for a job, take some time to become familiar with the company and their clients, so that you can properly understand the image they want to project to their customers. It will make all the difference if the question, “Do you know what we do and who we work for?” comes up in the interview. (Although it may not be asked so bluntly – your recruiter is looking for an eager, educated individual that took the time to learn all they could to make sure that they are a perfect match for the company.)

Show that you can meet deadlines, pay attention, and follow directions.

If the website says, “no phone calls,” then don’t call. The same goes for emails. It may be perfectly reasonable to shoot off an email to the HR people. “I was just wondering how long your backlog currently is?” Just don’t have hurt feelings if you get no response. After the interview, they may ask you to send them follow-up questions if you have any. This is the perfect time to ask questions about clients, pay rates, and other important job factors. If you are assigned an online task, let them know when you will be able to do it. They may ask you to do it immediately, which means that you’ll need to set aside extra time for the job interview. Be flexible and communicate clearly if you have some sort of obligation during the interview process that will prevent you from completing something on time.

Be yourself. Show your personality.

If you are good with people and enjoy talking, then go ahead and use those persuasive skills in your interactions with the employer – just don’t be excessive when it comes to talk time. If they ask you about your experience with their company or within a certain industry, go ahead and tell them. (For example, if you received a generous bouquet of roses from 1-800-FLOWERS from your boyfriend who proposed, and you accepted, then let them know that’s your experience.) Also, of course, mention any specific experience you have in the industry they serve.

Get familiar with essential work-at-home technology.

You should know how to work with a laptop, printer, and fax machine, for starters. This means that you should also be able to troubleshoot when something goes wrong with your equipment. If not, take a look through your user manuals and learn what to do when things don’t work the right way. As a virtual worker, you should also have knowledge of basic internet security - such as virus protection, firewalls, and spy removal software. You’ll want to set it up to automatically update when you are not at work.

How To Plan For Success

Marketers come online and they're in such a hurry to
make money, they neglect one of the most essential
ingredients to success.

They don't take the time to put together their battle
plan. They know where they want to go, but they never
sit down and map out how they're going to get there.

They're like ships without a crew. They're tossed to
and fro and have no idea why.

If you're serious about your business, you need a plan.

Your business should be planned like a well thought out
battle. If you haven't got your plan in place you'll
suffer casualties.

You won't suffer loss of life, but you will suffer
losses of:

* Money

* Time

* Opportunity


Just as the well honed warrior prepares for all possible
occurrences, you must be prepared to last through the
slow times, and be just as prepared to capitalize on the
times when it appears you can do no wrong.

The first step on your march to the flag is to decide
who you are. In the immortal words of Shakespeare, "In
brief sir, study that which you most affect".

Know your strengths and know your weaknesses. You'll
never be truly successful until you've first made an
inventory of your-self. You can study all the "How-To's"
and you may even make money, but to be truly be successful
you must have your "Why-To's" in place.

Once you've decided who you are and listed your
strengths and weaknesses, the next step is to determine
how much money you have for your war chest.

Only use money you can afford to lose. As any
professional trader or championship gambler will tell
you, "Scared money never wins!"

Don't mortgage your house or max-out your credit cards
because you've got the million dollar sure-fire winner.

You'll be so busy worrying, you won't be able to think
clearly.

Take money you won't miss and test-test-test. Your
thinking will be much clearer and when your testing
finally hits on a winning formula you'll be ready to
capitalize.

When you've got your winning formula, you should pyramid
your profits to expand your business. A minimum of 50%
of your profits should go back into your business in the
first 6 months.

If you're only using money you can live comfortably
without, you should place 100% back into marketing,
you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the fruits of your
labors!

The final step in your battle plan is to keep a log book.

Just as generals study battles from the past and chess
players study strategies from the old masters, you must
begin your own manual.

Don't rely on your memory!!

In your manual keep every advertising campaign you've
waged. Be as detailed as possible. List what has worked
and what hasn't.

Key your ads to determine where your profits are coming
from.

Test media used, actual ads and sells letters, etc.
Sculpt your business. If your business is based on
profits, the best way to insure profits is the same way
you'd carve an elephant out of granite.

"Remove everything that's not an elephant!"

In your business remove everything that isn't profitable.

Be ruthless with that chisel.

Don't marry any method of promotion, or any one
opportunity.

If you do you'll spend time chasing losses, instead of
accumulating profits.

Put some thought and effort into your plan and you'll
be a step ahead of the competition.

Never Judge A Business By Its Marketing: How To Choose A Winner

The headlines all seem too good to be true. "Work from home", "Make $3000 a month working part-time". We have all heard about these home business jobs. But we also hear just about as much about scams that hide in these exclamations. Most of us will just pass them buy and not pay any attention at all. But for every time one of us has had a 'lets check it out moment' there have been others who will follow thru and get mixed up in these 'opportunities'.

One thing to keep in mind that is the people behind the scams would not risk getting exposed if it were not profitable. As long as there people to fall for it, there are people willing to put out those banners and take their money. Research is going to be your best weapon against getting scammed from these home based businesses. This is going to mean more than just reading a bit on their website. Of course they are going to choose the few success stories to get you to buy what they are selling. You may be one of the lucky few that gets a business that is legitimate, but the odds are stacked against you.

You will want to check very deeply into whatever business you are thinking of partaking in. check third party websites, message boards and other forums where people can post about these companies. You may find they are nothing more than money grabbing scams. The better business bureau is a good place to look if you are thinking about involving yourself in a home business that you are unsure of. They will be able to tell you of any complaints they have on file. But remember, these types of companies often 'fly by night' and can work under several names at the same time.

If the Better Business Bureau has a complaint on file, run and don't look back. However, if they no complaints on file, you may want to continue digging, with caution. Another way to check out the business is to see if you can get a hold of them. Is there a phone number readily available? Is the telephone answered? Does a live person answer it? If you get a recording or a machine, is it easy to get an operator? If you can't and leave a message, does someone call you back in a timely manor? Do they respond to emails quickly? If the answer to any of these questions is 'no', run! Chances are very good that, if they cannot answer the phone or email before you start, they will not be there when you need them. To be sure, there are many home base business scams all over the place. Research must be done before you decided to do business with them. It will also help you not to waste your money by getting scammed.

One Way to Start an Internet Business

One day this past summer, while vacationing at a cottage
in the Okanagan Valley, my favorite watch went missing.
By the time I remembered that I'd left it by the swimming
pool, it was gone.

This wasn't just any watch. It was the first watch in years
that caught my eye and kept it. Moreover, it also kept time!
Most of you probably don't consider 'keeping time' a special
feature, but I have a box full of watches that stopped
working almost immediately after being put on my
hyper-magnetic wrist.

This very special watch was a piece of signed and
numbered wearable art by Eduardo Melies of Watchcraft® Inc.
studio in New York City.

As soon as I got home from my vacation, I phoned Watchcraft®
to have the watch replaced. It was good to speak with people who
fully comprehended and sympathized with my loss. Unfortunately,
they couldn't do anything about it. As the manufacturer,
they had to point me to their distributors, of which there
was only one in Canada.

I phoned the owner of the shop recommended by Watchcraft.
She told me that although they carried the line, she didn't
have the specific piece I was looking for. She estimated that
shipping from New York to Toronto and then out west would
take between a few weeks to a month. Although that was
disappointing news, hearing the high price of Watchcraft in
Canada was decidedly worse.

After speaking with her, I puzzled over the issue, knowing
there had to be a better way to handle the problem. I then phoned
Watchcraft back to beg and plead. Strangely enough, that
worked, but not the way you might be thinking.

Alex, the Watchcraft representative, and I had traded
pleasantries during our first conversation. One fact I'd
shared with him was that I make my living marketing various
products on the 'Net. Knowing that, Alex suggested that while
he couldn't sell me the product as a member of the public,
he could if I wanted to become a distributor.

I didn't have to think long about that offer. High quality and
demand are my first two criteria when choosing products and
services to offer my online customers. I personally loved the
product. It was attractive, unique and of ultra high quality.
Regarding demand, I knew that many of Melies customers are
repeat buyers. In a newspaper article about Eduardo's work,
I read about a woman who owns six of them. I also knew that
an older Watchcraft timepiece had recently traded for more than
$1700 on eBay, indicating high interest in the product.

The icing on the cake was being offered a drop-ship
arrangement. All I had to do was forward the completed
orders, and Watchcraft would take care of shipping.
This fit very well with my 'Work Less - Automate More!' motto.

The site was easy to set up, as Watchcraft sent me a CD with
all the watch pictures on disc, and a list of their wholesale prices.
All I had to do was research the retail price of Watchcraft
online, (and make mine lower), advertise the site and
start selling watches.

The only hard part is trying not to buy too many
for myself! :-)

Do You Have a Wealthy Attitude?

Wealthy people are conniving, selfish, lazy monsters who
will steal your last penny if you let them, or so that's
what I was raised to believe.

Fortunately, through my work and various associations, I've
spent time with many of these 'monsters', and discovered
that nothing could be farther from the truth.

In fact, over the years I've learned that wealthy people are
the hardest working, most generous people one could ever meet.

Obviously, the fear-based attitudes about money that were
instilled during my childhood were not only incorrect, they
didn't produce more for me than a steady job.

And no job, no paycheck. No matter how well-paid you are,
that's not wealth, that's a dangerous rut.

To me, wealth means income that is generated on a continuous
and ongoing basis, whether or not I'm working specifically
on that project or investment at any given time.

I knew that if I wanted to live a richer, fuller life, I'd
have to let go of my old beliefs and adopt healthier, more
productive attitudes to acquiring wealth.

So I set out to learn about the commonly held beliefs and
values shared by wealthy people.

The first commonality was obvious. Wealthy people all value
their time too highly to exchange it for a paycheck, and
therefore they work for themselves. The exception to this
is made when they'll work for a company in their chosen
industry to gain experience or be mentored.

Truly wealthy folks know that there is no such thing as 'get
rich quick' and understand that businesses are built, and
wealth is acquired, through being of service to others. They
find a need and fill it with excellent products and highly
quality customer service. Having their customers' trust and
support, their businesses stand the test of time.

All, without fail, regularly give a portion of their time
and money to help those less fortunate.

The wealthy also place great emphasis on healthy nutrition and
regular exercise. After their work day is over, rather than
flop on the couch to watch a rerun of 'Friends' (and West
Wing, and Coronation Street, and Frasier...) they'll opt for
a run or a friendly game of squash. They understand that
exercise is an activity that creates energy, whereas succumbing
to the temptation to 'flake-out' leaves you feeling even more
exhausted.

While out on that run, they put the increased oxygen flow to
good use by thinking, thinking and thinking some more. They
forumulate business plans and strategies for the short,
medium and long-term. They know that their vision for a
happy, solid future for themselves and their familes is
built on goals and the specific plans to achieve them.

Family is their top priority. Everything they do is for the
purpose of helping to improve the lives of their family
members.

Above all, they approach life with gratitude. They know in
their hearts that there is more than enough wealth on the
planet for everyone to share. They know that whatever effort
they make, whatever they choose to give, will be returned to
them many times over.

From that perspective, they have no fear, and it's fear, not
money, that is the root of all evil. Fear causes people to
hold on tight and act in greedy, selfish ways. Give to
receive.. it's really that simple.

The 'good life' may seem like a lot of hard work, and it is!
But if you truly want to enjoy the good life, then do the
'work' of setting goals, staying healthy, and being of
service to others with joy and an open heart. You'll be
delighted by the rewards work can bring when you approach
life with a wealthy attitude.

The Single Most Important Ingredient For Building Your Business

I've spent the past couple of weeks building a shed in my back garden. Already I hear you ask, what does that have to do with business? As I was building the shed, I realized how similar it was to building a business. Wait, and I'll explain more.

Metaphorically speaking, building a shed is very similar to building a business. There are many ingredients that you need, and missing any one of them out will mean the results will range from achieving nothing to the disastrous. But one ingredient stands head and shoulders above the rest.

It's a simple four letter word...

... P-L-A-N.

With a clear focused plan, and the right amount of knowledge and experience, you know exactly what materials and tools you need. With enough focus, hard work and persistence, you simply follow the plan to achieve the end result.

Let's go back to the example of building a shed, and examine what might happen if you had no plan, or just say a quick sketch on a scrap of paper to rely on:

- You would struggle to know what materials you needed, and have to make repeated trips to the hardware store, greatly reducing the efficient use of your time and needlessly wasting your energy.

- When you start to build, the various parts will likely not fit together properly. As a result, you will either have to start again, or carry on, trying to patch it up as you go along. Of course, it's demoralizing, you may lose faith in yourself, and give up altogether.

- If you manage to continue, the end result is likely to look shoddy, unprofessional, and cheap - and it will be a lasting, and embarrassing reminder of your approach.

But such a result is so easy - really, it is *so* easy - to avoid.

If you spend your time more efficiently before you even start, and develop a clear plan that you feel confident in, let us see what happens:

- You can work out exactly what materials you need, and make a trip or two to the hardware store to get them.

- You can follow the plan to build the shed, and fit the various parts together to achieve a solid construction that is both fit for purpose and aesthetically-appealing.

- The end result will look professional, and one you can feel proud of.

And you know what, it will also do wonders for your confidence and self-esteem - you will be planning bigger and better sheds in your sleep that before you wouldn't have even dreamed of attempting. Yes, I am metaphorically referring back to business, so let's get straight, and see exactly how this applies to your business.

Without a plan, your results will be unintended by definition. You are instead relying on a throw of the dice, for luck to shine on you, for good fortune to fall at your feet.

If you plan, you are planning to achieve a specific result - and your results are much more likely to be as intended, or at least, some way towards them. Of course, you can never predict exactly what will happen, but reach for the stars and you may at least hit the moon! And the experience you gain along the way is one of the most important assets for your business.

The first time I developed a plan for my business, and followed it through, my business doubled in a few short months. Developing a plan meant I had to define a target, and then define a plan to achieve it.

A plan gave me both focus and clarity - I knew what I wanted to achieve and how to achieve it. It encouraged me to ignore distractions, and remain focused on the plan - if I stayed on track with the plan, I could achieve the result I wanted.

In fact, I believe it is the single most important ingredient of all. With a plan, you know what else you need, like the following:

1. The right materials and tools - what do you need to achieve the result you are planning for?

2. The right knowledge and experience - don't worry if you don't have it, you can find someone who does, and learn! For example, there are countless successful Internet marketers for example who can barely construct a web page.

So what should you do now? Quite simply, define a target you want to reach, formulate a plan to reach it, and follow it until you reach your goal!

But as time passes by and the work at home business begins to blossom and profit, you wonder if it’s time to go full time. Before you venture into a full time work at home business, here are 6 points to think about.

1) Justify the reasons for wanting to go fulltime.

Ask yourself what the real reason is, for wanting to go fulltime. Is it because you think you are ready? What does “ready” mean? Are you doing it because someone told you to do it? Whatever the reasons for it, it’s a good idea to sit down, with your significant other – if you have one, and talk or think it through. Write down the reasons and make sure you are doing it for the RIGHT reasons. Make sure you are fully aware of what you plan to do and all the consequences. If you have a job right now, think about being fired from it this very day. Can you survive? Can you pay the bills? Can you support your family? You have no idea what fulltime would be like or how your business will perform once you go full time. Your recent business profits might have been due to seasonal spikes in customer buying habits and you might suffer a drastic decline in profits just as you go fulltime. So always have something to fall back onto.

4) Don’t burn all the bridges

Many people who had a “9 to 5” job and went full time with their work at home business make one hug mistake. They get into the “fire your boss” mode and sever all links with their employer and quit on bad terms. This is a big mistake. Never leave your current employer on bad terms. Don’t call your boss up and tell him or her off and not show up for work one day. Be professional and give notice. Explain your reasons for quitting and make sure you leave as a professional. This job has provided for you for this long. You’ve earned it – yes – but it’s been your lifeline all this time. Don’t simply kick it away just because your work at home business is doing good now and you THINK are ready to do it full time. Be professional and leave graciously. Here are four reasons why you should be grabbing your piece of internet real estate - right now.

Once you have it properly set up you can have all sorts of pages leading off from it, effectively creating an entire network of interlinked pages. Adding fresh, unique content to your site on a regular basis, can also help take your site from obscurity to top rankings on the major search engines in a relatively short space of time, resulting in high profile exposure for whatever business you are operating.

This is not a pipe dream that only top level search engine optimisation experts can achieve. Anyone can do it. Believe me. Try to remember this simple process whenever you add something to your site:

I have been targeted many times myself, but somehow I have always managed to thwart it, otherwise you would not be reading this now and none of my web sites would exist. I would not have created any products and would not have been able to help the hundreds of people who have asked my advice over the years. In short, I would be out of business.

When I first got on the internet I had no idea what I was doing. I could search for something on Google and that was about it.

I can now fix many computer problems
I can now build web sites, work with CGI and PHP scripts, do copy writing, create ebooks and many other things

I can do these things because I experimented, I did research and I studied how others were doing them. Why? Because I wanted my internet business to evolve and be successful.

The deadliest threat to the achievement of your personal dreams stems from you. It manifests itself as inertia.

The solution to this threat also stems from you. It manifests itself as action.

Take action immediately to help eradicate this threat. Make sure you do something every day to move your business forward. And you will find yourself taking great leaps toward your ultimate goal.

You may deduct a certain % of the cost for entertaining existing or prospective customers, if it is either "directly related" to the business, and business is discussed, or "associated with" the business, and the entertainment takes place immediately before or after a business discussion. Travel
When you travel for business, you can deduct many expenses, including the cost of plane fare, costs of operating your car, rental cars, taxis, lodging, meals, shipping business materials, dry cleaning, telephone calls, faxes and tips. When you make the decision to earn income from the internet you will need to go through a set up process to be ready for business.

Following are the basic steps in setting up for home business success.

1. Attitude

The key to your business success is your attitude.

Treat your business like a business.

This is critical whether you are working part-time or full-time. One of my colleagues is a mother who works from home around her family. She has always put her family first whilst at the same time developing her business. She says, "I work part-time, but I have a full-time attitude."

Put another way, "If you have a hobby attitude you will have a hobby income, if you have a business attitude you will have a business income."

You can be successful working part-time and you can be successful working full-time but it is highly unlikely that you will be successful working in your "spare time".

2. Working Environment

A space that you can call your own, free from distractions for your scheduled time.

A comfortable chair and organized desk.

Stationery supplies as required. For example:

7 Steps To Finding A Good Home Based Business Opportunity

First of all, I am by no means an expert. I still have a lot to learn, but I have been researching home based business opportunities and work at home programs for a few years now. I have been scammed, as I’m sure anyone looking for work at home has been.

When I first heard of working from home, about 9 or 10 years ago, I was very excited. I was a stay at home mom and I thought this would be perfect. I could still stay home, take care of my children, and be able to bring in money to supplement my husbands income.

I tried several work at home opportunities that I found in newspapers or magazines. (This was before the internet became very popular.) I tried stuffing envelopes only to find the money I would earn would not even come close to the amount I would spend on envelopes and postage. I ordered the original mystery shopper program, but did not have the time or money for postage to devote to contacting all the companies by mail and asking for permission to work for their company. (Note: This was before Mystery Shopping was available online. This program is much easier to get started in now, and is very popular.)

I even tried selling Avon and Tupperware. Now I personally know several people, including my grandmother, who do very well selling these products, but apparently I am not the saleswoman that they are.

Then, along came the internet. Again, I was very excited. Maybe my dream could still come true. So, I started searching online for a good work at home opportunity. What I found was a lot of work at home programs promising $1000s of dollars for doing almost nothing. They sounded good… too good to be true. But I was determined, so I kept searching. I tried several different things, but with not much luck.

I tried several affiliate programs and those never made any money for me. I tried at lot of different programs ranging in cost from free to $100. (My husband was only making about $10,000 a year at this time, so I wasn’t willing to spend any more than that on one program.) I even made one exception and spent a whopping $200 for a website with my name on it. All I had to do is promote it and I would make all the money off everyone visiting my site and ordering the product. Well, I promoted my heart out on every site I could find. I had a few people email me with questions, but never had any orders. What I figured out was that I had bought into a cookie cutter program where the only product being sold was the same one I had ordered. I had been scammed! And when I asked for a refund, the owner of the program could not be found.

Note: The programs listed above may have done very well for other people. There are legitimate companies that deal in these types of products. I am not putting down these programs in any way. Nor am I discouraging anyone from trying them out for themselves. I am only stating my personal results. Please do not take my opinions or results as fact. Check them out for yourself.

Now, I consider myself a pretty intelligent person, but each time I tried and failed on one of these programs, I felt gullible, stupid, and angry with myself. I felt like I had let my family down. I had failed again. I was ready to give up.

After a while, I realized I did not want to ‘just give up’. Maybe I’m just stubborn, but I still felt there was money to be made in a home based business. So I started thinking about the different programs I had bought and my approach to them. I realized that my mistake had been that I jumped in feet first without taking time to research the opportunity fully. I took their word on it. I didn’t ask questions or try to find out as many details as I could first. So before searching for yet another work at home business opportunity, I decided to put some more thought into it.

I thought about how I could research the programs more carefully. There are very legitimate companies out there that will make you a profit. But, there are also companies that will lie through their teeth to get your hard earned money! The internet is so vast; it is hard to know where to begin and what to believe.

After much thought on the subject, I had a few ideas. I came up with a 7 step screening process that I use when searching for a business opportunity. I have listed these steps in detail.

Trust your first instinct.

This one is easy. If something sounds too good too be true, it usually (but not always!) is. When looking at an opportunity, ask yourself:

Does this company sound legit?

Is what they are offering a sound product or service?

Would you be comfortable selling this product or providing this service?

Does what it promises sound to good to be true?

Do they have testimonials from satisfied customers on their site?

Do they have any credentials listed?

Do they offer a money back guarantee?

As stated in the heading, trust your first instinct. It is always best to go on your gut reaction. If you’re not sure, ask someone you trust to take a look at the program and give his or her opinion.

That first rush is always great. Reading through some of these opportunities can be very exciting. The money they promise you will get your heart pounding. But ask yourself, “Does this sound right”?

I advise you to think on the opportunity for a day or two and then go back and read it again. This will allow time for the initial excitement to die down and allow you to put some serious thought into pursuing this particular program.

Make sure they offer a money back guarantee!

I listed this in the first step, but it deserves its own heading. This may be the most important rule.

If the company does not offer any kind of guarantee, they are most likely not a reputable company. There should be a minimum 30 day guarantee. Of course, 60 or 90 days is better, but no less than 30 is acceptable.

A guarantee shows that a company stands behind its product. If there is not a guarantee, the product will probably not be very good.

Don’t be taken in by one time offers or timers!

On some business opportunity sites, you will see a limited offer, such as “This offer only available until date below.” And more often than not, it will be whatever date you are viewing the site. Don’t be fooled by this. It is a tactic to get you to buy now without asking any questions or putting any thought into your purchase. You should not be rushed into buying anything. Especially not something that you are hoping will provide at least part, if not all, of your family’s income.

Another tactic is a timer on the site. It will state that you must order before the timer runs out or the product will no longer be available. Again, they hope to get you excited and that you will ‘buy now before its too late’. But have you ever watched those timers? I have. They do not run out. They appear to be counting down, but they never get below a preset number.

Note: I am not stating that if a company uses these tactics they are not legit. They are using aggressive sales tactics, but they may still be a reputable company. If you feel it is a good opportunity to research, continue with the steps.

Sometimes when you are reading a companies pitch page, you might find something missing. They only give a vague idea of what you would be selling or doing if you order their program.

And that falls under my next heading…

Ask Questions!

Never be afraid to ask questions. If the company is legit, they will not mind answering your inquiries. Search through the site to find their contact information. A phone number is best, but an email address will do.

Make a list of questions. Think carefully of what you need to ask. This is your hard earned money they are wanting. You have every right to ask for more information.

You would do the same if …

* you were applying for a job. You would want to know exactly what you would be doing, how often you would be paid, and what benefits you would receive.

* you were buying a product at a store. You would ask the salesperson details on the product, such as, how it works, and how will it benefit you.

Sample questions you would ask might include:

a. What type of product or service will I be offering?

b. Does this program involve advertising or marketing for it to work?

c. If so, do they provide promotional tools?

d. How will I be paid and how often?

e. Will there be support? Do they sell you the program and cut you loose or will they help you out with getting started?

f. Will I have to spend additional money after ordering the program? (i.e. monthly fees, additional information, or tools?)

g. Will a website be required and if so, will they provide it?

h. Ask them about their guarantee and refund policy. Even if this info was listed on their site, it would not hurt to ask and have it reiterated.

Include anything else you can think of depending on the type of program you are looking into. If something is not answered on their site home or FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page, or it is very vague, ask!

Now, you can not expect full disclosure of their program. They would not be in business very long if they gave away all their information for free. But you should expect a little more detailed information than they provided on their site. If you are not satisfied with the answer, ask again in a different way or with questions that are more detailed. Again, if they are an honest company, they will provide answers.

If you send an email and do not get a reply within a day or two, your email may have not gotten through their spam filter, or they may have missed it in their other mail. Send it again, maybe with a different subject line, such as ‘Membership Question’, or ‘A question on your program’. If you still do not receive an answer, they may not be a reputable company. I would not advise ordering from any company that you cannot get a response from. If they cannot be bothered to answer a few questions, they certainly won’t bother to return your money if you are not satisfied.

Don’t take their word for it.

When looking at a company with a business opportunity, you do not have to take their word on it .There is so much information available on the internet. Use it to your advantage.

Check out the company with the BBB Online.

Google it! Do a search on the company name or program.

See what information you can find on this company or product. You might even find posts in forums where someone has actually bought the program and tried it out.

Another good search engine is WebFerret. It searches 10 search engines at once, including Google. You can download this at http://www.ferretsoft.com

If you are a member of a forum or chat room, you can ask if there is anyone who has tried the program. There are chat rooms devoted to this.

Search for review sites that review home based businesses or work at home opportunities. Just make sure the review site is reputable, too. Email them and ask about their experience with the company you are researching.

A very good review site is http://www.consumer-rated.com. If you do not find the company you are researching listed on their reviews, email them and ask if they have reviewed this company or a similar one. If they haven’t, look for another review site that has.

Search until you are at least satisfied that you cannot find anything negative about the company.

Please note that this is an important step. It will not guarantee that you won’t be scammed, but at least you have done your homework and protected yourself as best you can.

Search for similar programs.

Let’s face it. There is not a lot of originality left, even on the internet. The work at home program or business opportunity that you are checking out is probably not the only one of its kind. Search for other company sites that are offering a similar product or program. You may find one that you like even better, depending on information provided and benefits listed.

Remember to take each company your are interested in through the steps listed above.

Here is an example of using all the above steps:

I found a website offering data entry from home. The site was flashy with large, garishly colored fonts, and practically yelled at me to sign up now to earn thousands of dollars a day. I heard the word ‘Scam’ in my head as I read through the pitch. I did not like the sound of this company, but I was intrigued by the idea of data entry from home. So, I started searching for other data entry opportunities.

After reviewing around 20-40 company sites, I decided on one. It was very different than a lot of the other sites I reviewed. The one I chose had a professional looking website. It did not promise a lot of money for nothing. It stated, in a quiet and practical manner, a brief description of the program and what it was possible to earn with a little hard work. This company also offered 7 different data entry programs for the same price that the other sites were selling just one. And they offered a money back guarantee.

I then emailed this company with my list of questions. I received excellent feedback. I searched for everything I could find on this company, and then emailed Consumer-Rated on their experience. I received a great review from them as well.

This company passed all the above steps with flying colors.

I did order this program and have started working on getting everything setup. I am taking it slowly, reading through all the information., and making sure I know exactly how this program works.

This brings me to the final step…

Reviewing your program

Once you have decided on the company and ordered your program, you will then want to review all the information and tools provided. Read through it several times. Then ask yourself…

Is the program informative?

Is it made clear what product you will be selling or service you will be providing?

Does it give you step by step instructions on how to work this program?

Does it provide al the tools necessary to work this program?

Does it state exactly how you will earn money with this program?

Are you comfortable doing what is required?

Does it still sound like a legit program?

If you answered yes to all these questions, then you have probably found yourself a good program. If there is one or two you’re not sure on, don’t despair just yet. If you found a good company, they will offer support. If you are not sure about something in the program, contact your support team and ask. A good company will help you to sort out all the information and answer any questions you have on getting started.

If you do not get the support you require, then you may have been scammed. If you are not able to get help with your questions, then you may also have trouble getting a refund on the program.

If you answer no to all or even 3 or 4 of the above questions, I would seriously consider asking for a refund immediately. Again, trust your gut instinct.

After reviewing the program I ordered, I am quite happy. The program is laid out step by step, and it seems very easy to do. And I also received several bonuses that could bring in additional income. I have not yet made any money, as I have not started yet, but I am sure that I will be able to very quickly. I am happy to take the time to make sure I do it right.
